What You Need To Know About Lawn Spraying And Fertilization

By Paul Price

There are many things done to maintain a lawn. As a property owner you must always be aware of such things. Lawn spraying and fertilization are some of the procedures done. All the maintenance procedures need to be well understood to make sure they are effective. Understanding these procedures makes sure that your lawn stays healthy. While taking care of the lawns, there are some conditions that must be well understood and adhered to.

Soils vary in nutrient value and whether spraying, or applying fertilizers, it is best to know what the soil has and what it lacks. This will be a great factor when choosing the right fertilizers and the spraying herbicides or supplements for the turf. Some herbicides are best used at other times and not the rest. This will greatly assist when making the right choice.

Within a year, there are different seasons. These seasons may vary depending on the location and the climate. These seasons determine if it is the right time to apply fertilizer or spray the field. It is not advisable to apply fertilizers during the spring time. When fertilizer is applied at this time, leaf growth is stimulated at the expense of the root. Some lawns need to be fertilized few times in a year as compared to others. This depends on the quality of the lawn.

This means that if low quality lawns is desired, low or medium maintenance is also required. This means that they will be fertilized less often as compared to a high quality one that will require high maintenance. With this in mind, one can now choose the right fertilization schedule.

Maintaining lower quality lawns is easy to manage. Fertilizer can be applied only one a year. This can be done when the leaves have stopped growing. This way, the roots get stronger as a result of the nitrogen provided by the fertilizer. Always water your lawns after fertilizer application as this is effective.

There are machines that should be used when applying fertilizer. These machines are called spreaders and there are two of them. They are the drop spreader and the broadcast or the rotary spreader. They are both used to spread fertilizer on fields but used differently as one is for small lawns and the other for large lawns.

If you have large lawns, it best to use the rotary or the broadcast spreader as it throws fertilizer 10 feet. This covers a big area of the field. The spreader may not be perfect with precision but it covers 70% of the field. Well, with small lawns the drop spreader is the best. To make sure that most of the field is covered by both the spreaders, the fertilizer should be applied twice in right angles.

Lawns too like any other part of a field gets affected by weeds. There are measures that can be used to control the weeds. With lawns, herbicides can be used to get rid of the weeds. It is crucial that the right herbicide is used. This will ensure that the lawns are not damaged and that they indeed grow well. Always remember to use the right herbicide. This is the one that controls the target weeds without damaging the grass.
